The change from the early arrangement to the mid arrangement was made about mid-1950. The starter rod changed at the same time as the starter but the spring clip and cotter pin change was slightly later. The starter retracting spring has 12 coils of 0.067 diameter spring wire with a free length of 3-5/16". The Late CJ-3A starter (not shown) was key activated.
