Three different Right Front Fenders were used on Willys CJs in 1949. The first two are very similar and I will call them Type 1A and Type 1B. Both 'Type 1' fenders look the same from the front view, as seen in the photo below left.

Type 1A and Type 1B right front fenders have the same part number 663151, and are usually called a 'CJ-2A' fender. The rear surface of the battery pocket in the splash apron of a Type 1A fender (above right) is flat. A less common version of the 'CJ-2A' fender is the Type 1B (left), with a large dimple formed in the rear surface of the pocket that surrounds the battery tray. The rear surface is best seen by looking in behind the passenger side front tire.

The Type 2 fender (right) has a die stamped splash apron as opposed to the previous flat, folded and welded construction. The Type 2 fender is commonly called a 'CJ-3A' fender and has part number 670490.

From the front it is very easy to spot the difference between a Type 1 (A or B) and a Type 2 fender. The difference between Type 1A and Type 1B is more subtle and requires a close look at the rear pocket area.
